WHAT IS K2?
K2 is a relatively new discovery, also referred to as “K2 Granite” or “Raindrop Azurite.” It is also called “K2 Jasper” despite not actually being a jasper at all. It is a type of fine white granite, composed of feldspar minerals and black flecks of biotite, infused with polka dots of bright blue azurite.
WHAT ARE THE HEALING PROPERTIES OF K2?

WHERE IS K2 FOUND?
K2 is a unique and rare stone that has only been found in Pakistan. The area in which it was discovered is located in the Karakoram range of the Himalayas. It was discovered in the foothills of K2 Mountain, which is the second highest mountain in the world, after Mount Everest. This mountain lies on the border between China and Pakistan but it has only been found on the Pakistan side of the border to date. K2 Mountain holds the nickname “Savage Mountain” due to its challenging and treacherous climbing conditions.
It tends to be relatively expensive compared to other crystals and minerals on the market. Due to the remote location, high altitude, heavy snowfall and limited resources, as well as the rarity, all adds to the value of the stone.
HOW TO CARE FOR K2
K2 has a hardness of approximately 6 on the MOHS scale. A rating of 6 is generally considered to be safe for cleaning with water, however its best to avoid soaking it and use water sparingly. I personally recommend avoiding placing crystals in water at all costs, in case of any missed underlying damage, that allows water to seep into cracks and crevices potentially further damaging the stone. Care should still be taken when handling and cleaning, as the surface can still be scratched and show wear overtime. It is also considered safe in the sun for short periods of time, prolonged sun exposure may dull the blue azurite.
HOW TO IDENITIFY GENUINE K2
K2 appears quite frequently on the market with many listings from a number of crystal and metaphysical stores globally. However there is one thing to be aware of when it comes to purchasing a piece for your collection. There is another very similar crystal on the market that appears to be K2, but it is in fact not genuine. It is still an authentic crystal, but it is actually “Apatite In Cleavelandite.” Despite the similar appearance, these two crystals are completely different compositions. K2 is “Azurite In Granite” and “Apatite In Cleavelandite” is just that.

You can see here that genuine K2 from Pakistan on the left has an opaque appearance with black flecks of biotite. Apatite In Cleavelandite appears to have a much more soft, translucent base. The blue colouration in both pieces is quite similar, but generally the Azurite is much more defined in K2 crystals.
