WHAT IS CELESTITE?

Celestite or Celestine, is a mineral made up of strontium sulphate. The name Celestite is derived from the Latin word caelestis, which means "celestial" or "heavenly" that refers to its sky blue coloured crystals. Celestite can be found in blue, white or even colourless.

WHAT ARE THE PROPERTIES OF CELESTITE?

Celestite is full of calming and uplifting energies. It makes the perfect healing stone by dissolving pain, and bringing love to you. It also works to bring tranquillity to the mind, by banishing worries, giving you mental clarity and protecting against negative energies.

Place a piece in the bedroom to promote a peaceful nights sleep and sweet dreams.

WHERE IS CELESTITE FOUND?

Celestite has been found in a few places around the world in small quantities, however the main source is from the deposits on the north-western coast of Madagascar.

It can be found in a variety of environments, including sedimentary rocks and evaporite deposits, and it is often associated with other minerals such as barite and gypsum.

HOW TO CARE FOR CELESTITE

Celestite is an extremely fragile crystal, that is prone to breakage. Ensure to take extra care while handling this delicate piece, and that it is kept is a safe place.

On the MOHS hardness scale, Celestite is a soft mineral that has a hardness of 3 - 3.5. It is also prone to fading and should be kept out of direct sunlight. If it is exposed to sunlight for a long time its beautiful blue colouring will turn white. Sunlight will not only affect the colour but it will also damage its structure.

HOW TO CLEANSE CELESTITE

As mentioned above, Celestite is extremely fragile, so when it comes to cleansing, not all methods are suitable to cleanse this crystal.

Water - Celestite is not suitable for water, as its value on the MOHS scale is below the minimum required for putting into water. Water can seep into the crevices of the stone, expand them and therefore damage the structure. It is made up of strontium sulphate, which doesn't dissolve in water easily. Although it is difficult to dissolve and the water may not dissolve it, it is still not safe to immerse in water, you will still damage your crystal.

Cleansing your crystal using the smoke from incense sticks and cones is an effective way to safely cleanse. Another way to cleanse fragile crystals is by using Selenite. Selenite is a crystal that doesn't need cleansing itself as it transmutes negative energy naturally, but holds the ability to cleanse and purify other stones in its presence.
